Overview

"SCOPE OF THE ATLAS:While diagnostic cardiac catheterization and angiography has given way to other non-invasive imaging modalities, interventional cardiac catheterization has become more prevalent. This assumes an even greater knowledge of the angiographic appearance of various congenital cardiac and vascular malformations that may be treated in the catheterization laboratory. This atlas is a quick, interactive, visual reference for many common and rare congenital defects for the Interventional Cardiologist. It also serves as an introduction to angiographic techniques for Cardiology and Radiology Fellows in training and a reference for pediatric and adult cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons who may treat these defects. This CD-ROM is a primer of the angiographic appearance of congenital cardiovascular defects and anomalies. The interactive multimedia format of the CD-ROM serves this pictorial atlas very well in that the user can rapidly find a topic of interest in the table of contents, or work through each chapter and follow the blood flow from the systemic veins, through the heart and out to the body. The first section presents the basic principles of angiocardiography, including standard views or projections. There is an emphasis on angled or axial projections, which display certain anomalies more clearly. The next section briefly describes contrast materials and the optimal doses required for imaging various lesions with differing physiologies. As a reference point for the later anomalies, the book includes a section on the normal angiographic anatomy of the heart and systemic vessels and their variations. The main section is a collection of angiographic pictures of congenital cardiovascular anomalies. There are still frames from angiograms with labeled line drawings that can be hidden or displayed by the user, serving as an interactive learning tutorial. There are also video clips of actual angiograms to produce ""real life"" viewing of various defects. The reader may follow the blood flow from the systemic veins through the heart and lungs to the systemic arteries, viewing the cardiovascular anomalies for each anatomic section, or jump from the anomalies table of contents to sections of interest.I MAGES:The CD-ROM is being produced with Illuminatus Opus, Paint Shop Pro, and Microsoft Office. There are 663 pages, 1247 angiogram pictures with 1050 line drawings/captions and 27 video clips (AVI).This is an atlas of angiograms, so most of the images are gray-scale x-rays in the .jpeg format. Some colored .jpeg illustrations are also included. Each e-ray is accompanied by one or more .jpeg line drawings. There are also several video clips in the .avi format. The entire content will be generated by a multinedia authoring program called Illuminatus Opus and will be contained on a single CD-ROM disk as an autorun .exe file.SEARCH FUNCTIONS:Within the text, table of contents, and chapter headings are hypertext links to pecific pages or chapters. Also, a searchable index allows users to perform ad hoc searches.PRINT FUNCTIONS:The program will include page print functions for text pages. The user might want to do a screen capture of paricular images. The program can be published in a web HTML format and viewed with a browser, but there will be no Internet connection or requirement, although the Opus program is capable of publishing a Web-based version.T UTORIAL:The CD-ROM includes a one-page explanation of the navigation buttons and symbols used in the porgram. The image labels will be hidden by default, but can be turned on by the user, so that the program can serve as a self-test. This CD-ROM runs on a Windows for PC platform only.Special Note on Royalties: The royalty breakdown will be as follows:20 % on the first 300, 30% on the next 200, 40% on the next 500, and 50% thereafter. This cannot be indicated with the current three-levels of escalation that BPS allows."
