Overview

The American Settlement Movement was one of the most significant, broadly based reform efforts in the history of the United States, yet surprisingly few people are even aware of its existence. Included in the Encyclopedia's 230 entries are biographies of key individuals, descriptions of settlement houses and reform committees, synopses of influential writings and reports, and articles on major issues affecting the movement
