"""During the COVID-19 pandemic many parents and caregivers added science teacher to their daily job titles. For some this might have felt overwhelming. David P. Mitchell's wonderful book, Amazing Science Activities for Children, comes to the rescue for these parents and caregivers allowing them to confidently nurture a scientific mindset in their young people. The easy-to-read format with informative drawings and photographs will allow even the most science-intimated adult to perform simple science experiments within the home using everyday household materials and items...David P. Mitchell has chosen fun topics for young scientists to explore and often writes in a humorous way that should appeal to his intended audience. As a Canadian scientist who spent a career working in the field of forensic science, I was particularly delighted to see several experiments that focused on fingerprints and DNA. I will be sharing this book with young people in my family and community."" Dr. Della Wilkinson, Research Scientist (retired), Royal Canadian Mounted Police. ""The lay out, or format, of the book is excellent, with clear and uncluttered directions, ea sy-to-follow numbered steps for all the activities, beautiful photographs (some of them quite mesmerizing), and with graphics, charts, etc, to guide readers through the big ideas and science facts... The material is presented in a clear and unambiguous way, and the book always retains a positive and engaging stance...Young readers will be hooked on this book... A clever and thoughtful use of diagrams and photographs helps readers of all levels along...The activities relate directly to children's lives and experiences, and they draw on items found in most homes or schools. The activities are thoughtfully designed to include, where needed, the assistance of parents/teachers/caregivers, and safety is always paramount...Most importantly, the book presents intriguing science ideas and fascinating activities for youngsters. There is a mind-boggling array of science facts and experiments, and the whole expanse of science is opened up to learners, both young and old. I expect this activity book to be a solid and splendid resource for educators and parents alike."" Joyce Bainbridge, Professor Emerita in children's literature, Faculty of Education, University of Alberta. ""I liked the attractive layout of Science Activities for Children. The book is a wonderful resource for a family to have especially over the last few years. It is the type of book that families could use for years as the age range is quite large. A great range of science areas is covered, and the equipment is easily sourced. The book can be used to simply engage children and there is enough follow up science for those who want to know why. It would have been useful for all those school holidays when my kids where younger especially over winter!"" Rob Park, Network Facilitator at Ecumenical Schools Australia and Education consultant for the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Victoria, Australia. ""Amazing Science Activities for Children David P. Mitchell. What a great way to learn. This book is really good with wonderful picture and fun experiments. This is the kind of book that makes science fun...If you are a parent this would be a great book to pick up and maybe spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon experimenting with your young ones"" Crystal Crossings on BookSprout."
