Ali Sardar Jafri is known as a great Urdu poet, short story writer, thinker and critic. His mental development was influenced by the ancient literary traditions of Urdu, classical values ​​and thoughts, as well as the social, political and societal environment of that time. A study of Sardar Jafri's critical writings shows that he never presented himself as a critic, but he always expressed his point of view as a reader and writer with great humility. This book contains some of his literary essays. / علی سردار جعفری اردو کے عظیم شاعر، افسانہ نگار ، مفکر اور نقاد کی حیثیت سے جانے پہچانے جاتے ہیں۔ ان کی ذہنی نشونما میں اردو کی قدیم ادبی روایات، کلاسیکی اقدار و افکار اور ساتھ ہی ساتھ اس دور کے سماجی ، سیاسی اور معاشرتی ماحول کا بھرپور عمل دخل رہا ہے۔ سرادر جعفری کی تنقیدی تحریروں کے مطالعے سے یہ ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ وہ کہیں بھی اپنے آپ کو نقاد کی حیثیت سے پیش نہیں کرتے بلکہ انہوں نے ہمیشہ نہایت انکساری کے ساتھ ایک قاری اور ادیب کی حیثیت سے اپنے نقطۂ نظر کو بیان کیا ہے۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ترقی پسند تحریک میں جمالیات کے سائنٹفک تصور کے ذریعے ہی ادب کی صحیح معنویت کا اندازہ ہوتا ہے۔ مزدور اور عوام کی اکثریت جہالت کا شکار ہے۔ ہمیں ان سے ہمدردی ضرور ہے لیکن وہ ادب کی کلاسکیت سے واقف نہیں۔ اگر ہم ان کی سطح پر اترتے ہیں تو ہمارا ادب گھٹیا اور سستا ہو کر رہ جاتا ہے۔ ادیب کا کام ادب کی تخلیق کرنا ہے، اگر ادب میں فن ہی ہاتھ سے چلا گیا تو محض برہنہ موضوع، نعرے بازی اور پروپگنڈہ ہی باقی رہ جاتا ہے۔
