Reviews

The evolution of agroforestry from a highly descriptive, value-laden practice into an applied, multidisciplinary science is now in full swing, and this book is a significant contribution in this direction. The chapters provide excellent coverage. Some describe broad issues, while others focus on highly specific topics. Geographical coverage is wide, including both tropical and temperate regions...I commend the authors and editors on a job well done. Enjoy reading it. -Pedro A. Sanchez, Director General, International Centre for Research in Agroforestry, from the Foreword to this book Overall, this is an admirable book...the editors have done an effective job in choosing a balance of subjects that form a cohesive whole...should be of great value to anyone with an agricultural or ecological background who has an interest in agroforestry. -Brent Blair in New Biological Books, December 1999 Important new case studies from around the world offer innovative strategies that have been used successfully in raising forests and tree products on a sustainable basis for commercial harvesting, and for providing other environmental services in land conservation and watershed management. -Biology Digest, November 1999 ...is extremely valuable for scientists, students, educators and planners involved in agroforestry and management of natural resources. --Meka R. Rao and Chin K. Ong, Ecosystem Rehabilitiation Programme, International Centre for Research in Agroforestry, Nairobi, Kenya The textbook Agroforestry in Sustainable Agricultural Systems (CRC Press, 1999) is a very useful collection of papers that enhance our understanding of complex agroforestry practices... This book will be useful not only as a text for introductory college courses, but also for educators, researchers, extensionists and students wishing to gain a better understanding of agroforestry. - The Temperate Agroforester, October 2001
