He recently returned from Afghanistan, where he led a team of U.S. military trainers who educated and mentored Afghan Border Police. During his tour, he participated in numerous humanitarian and combat missions. Prior to his tour in Afghanistan, SFC Courter served for many years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and as an active duty U.S. Marine. In civilian life prior to Afghanistan, he was an independent business consultant and Sunday School teacher in suburban Chicago, where he lives with his wife and three teenagers. A long-time student of diverse religions and spiritual practices, SFC Courter holds a BA with Distinction in Communications from The Ohio State University.
