Overview

"The books being reprinted in this set are all rare and should be useful for studies in the aesthetics of music in the 18th century. Attention has been focused on the subject recently with the publication of Roger Scruton's ""The Aesthetics of Music"" (1999), which is a comprehensive account of the nature and significance of music from the perspective of modern philosophy. Since the idea of aesthetics has its origins in the 18th century, it seems natural to start there when considering the origins of aesthetic perceptions of music and its performance. This set complements ""Aesthetics: Sources in the Eighteenth Century"", introduced by John Price and published by Thoemmes Press in 1998. This is a seven-volume set of facsimile reprints. Two of the volumes are enhanced with illustrations."
