Advances in Health and Disease. Volume 90

Overview

This volume includes eight chapters that detail advances in health and disease research. Chapter 1 introduces an integrated, AI-enabled architecture that combines multimodal sensing, brain–computer interfaces (BCIs), and a knowledge-based control layer to support continuous rehabilitation in hospital and home settings. Chapter 2 addresses project EATMOT: a study on the different types of food motivations among people from a wide variety of countries. Its results indicate that the strategies used to cope with emotional eating are very dependent on the sociocultural environment in each country. Chapter 3 provides a comprehensive overview of the extraction methodologies and pharmacological properties of α-pinene and β-pinene, two structurally related monoterpenes that are ubiquitously found in the essential oils of a wide array of medicinal and aromatic plants. In Chapter 4, the key concepts, advancements, and packages of sustainable practices in medication development and components are examined. Chapter 5 presents an ontology-driven simulation framework that models health status in alignment with the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and the European White Book on Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. Chapter 6 provides an opportunity to expand the understanding of the emergence and features of the sports triad in female sports, as well as to justify the importance of its early diagnosis and correction of health. Chapter 7 studies the use of physical culture and sports rehabilitation for speech disorders in children. In particular, the psychophysiological effect of the use of physical exercises and sports to improve the condition of children with speech disorders is substantiated. Lastly, Chapter 8 focuses on the relationship between maternal stress perception and obstetrical complications as well as perinatal pathology.
