Overview

Past and present. Fathers and sons. Retribution and Revenge It's an old game: spy versus spy. This was supposed to be a simple information exchange, but retired U.N. spy Mai Fisher finds herself in a cab with a man possibly hired by a Balkan warlord to kidnap her. Her escape leaves her wet, cold, and determined to find out who burned her. After almost 40 years as a spy for the U.N. Intelligence Directorate, Alexei Bukharin wants a calm life with his wife, Mai Fisher, and to finish raising his college-student granddaughter Natalia. However, a Russian spy, affected by something in Alexei's past, has other plans for them-especially for Natalia. Mai and Alexei put aside retirement to find out who betrayed Mai and who is interested in Natalia. Along the way, they uncover a Russian mole in the FBI and the reason behind Russian intelligence's targeting of Natalia-a decision Alexei made decades ago about his son's future. Past and present collide. Fathers and sons remember. Will retribution and revenge prevail?

Reviews

"""I loved reading this spy thriller where old school KGB meets twenty-first century FBI. Alexei and Mai are a husband and wife battling each other as much as those who threaten them. It's great fun watching them work it out, in between getting shot and making love. I can't wait to read the next book."" --J. Russ Briley, author of One Man, Two Votesand Two Dirty for D.C. ""Intelligently and wickedly entertaining, A War of Deception is more than just another spy novel. P. A. Duncan is a writer to watch."" --Mollie Cox Bryan, author of theCumberland Creek Mysteries and the Cora Craft Mysteries ""A War of Deception is a page-turning thriller unlike any I've read. With engaging, believable characters, knife-sharp dialogue, and a riveting plot, Duncan paints a timely and frightening picture of a new cold war between Russia and the West. Or maybe the spies have all gone rogue? You won't want to stop reading until you find out. And you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended."" --Clifford Garstang, author of What the Zhang Boys Know, Winner of the Library of Virginia Literary Award for Fiction"

Author Information

The author of 30+ published historical espionage works and one mystery, P. A. Duncan is also a former commercial pilot, government aviation safety official, and stodgy bureaucrat, albeit one with a highly overactive imagination. A graduate of Madison College (now James Madison University) with degrees in history and political science, she lives and writes in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. History and politics often find their way into her writing. Her short fiction has been featured in numerous literary journals and anthologies and has won or placed in several contests. Her novels consistently reach the top 25 on Amazon bestseller lists, with one rising to #2 twice in one year. She has edited the works of several award-winning and bestselling authors in a variety of genres. When not writing, she cheers on the New York Yankees (yes, even after the 2023 season), watches Formula 1 and NASCAR, and spoils her grandchildren.
