OverviewEarly 1915. The most dangerous place on Earth. Malcolm MacPhail enlisted in the army to fight the Hun and get out of town - not necessarily in that order. Now he's arrived in the infamous Ypres Salient. It's pouring, he's up to his shins in mud and he's had his first terrifying acquaintance with the enemy howitzers. The Great War is proving less glorious than he imagined. If he's to survive on the deadly front lines of the Western Front Malcolm must become a soldier. However, when a shady acquaintance from home turns up to remind him of his past and looking for trouble, suddenly he faces enemies in front and behind. He grew up throughout Canada, but spent most of his youth in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains in Calgary, Alberta where he studied Political Science & Economics, and thought briefly of joining the Navy. Instead he moved to the Netherlands to complete an MBA. After a first career as an analyst in the European equity markets he embarked upon a new one in writing historical fiction. His debut novel, Malcolm MacPhail's Great War (2017) was followed by My Hundred Days of War (2018). A War for King and Empire (2020) is the third and most recent in the Malcolm MacPhail WW1 series. Darrell's first novel, Malcolm MacPhail's Great War set in 1917-1918, introduced the world to Malcolm MacPhail, a young Canadian soldier whose penchant for plain-speaking proves almost as hazardous as the momentous battles of the Great War in which he finds himself. With Darrell's second book, My Hundred Days of War, MacPhail's story continues into the decisive final campaign of 1918. His latest novel, A War for King and Empire, takes the reader back to 1915 with MacPhail arriving on the Western Front as an inexperienced private on the eve of a major battle (chronologically this makes the book the first in the series). The books can be read as a series or stand-alone. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
