Overview

In her first memoir, Lilly A. Gwilliam shared how she shook off the expectations of her family and found her own way in the world, establishing herself as a successful woman in her own right. Then she met Gary Gwilliam, and her life took off in a new direction. In this book, Lilly shares her heartfelt and inspiring journey as she learns to embrace an unexpected love that changes the way she sees the world. The story then follows the couple as they work to bring five children from three different marriages together into one loving, successful family. It's a journey that proves it's never too late to meet the person who will change your life, that families come in all shapes and sizes, and that happiness can be found at any age.

Reviews

Lilly and Gary's story is a positively glowing example of what can happen when one takes a chance on love in midlife. . . . This love story shows us all how to live and what it means to be a family. Elizabeth C. Saviano, nurse practitioner and health care attorney Memoirs are special. And A New Generation: Creating a Blended Family through the Power of Love is particularly special because Lilly Gwilliam shares secrets from the heart and her courage to follow her intuition. It is an inside look into the mind of this passionate woman who examines, with honesty, her initial attraction to Gary Gwilliam, her trials and tribulations, her hopes for a wonderful future, and the courage to follow her intuition and overcome her fear of not taking action. It took great courage to write this book. All women can identify with the conflicting emotions expressed on these pages. . . . A New Generation is a keeper-definitely one you want on your bookshelf. Jay W. Macintosh, a Californian attorney/actress/writer, retired and living in Paris, France This sensitive, insightful, and concise memoir narrates not only of the challenges and rewards blending a complex family in midlife, but also of the author's tremendous drive to fulfill both her career and personal aspirations in the process. Lilly's story of determination, serendipity, and, above all, abiding love will be cherished by generations to come. Paula Wagner, author of Newcomers in an Ancient Land, She Writes Press, 2019 Lilly Gwilliam has brought us a story of personal wisdom and truth. In a stunningly descriptive chronicle of her life's journeys, her story draws a portraiture of love-love for her family, profession, and husband, Gary. Assuredly, you will be drawn in and stirred to reflect on your own life and those you love as well. Maryanne Murphy, Esq. In her memoir A New Generation: Creating a Blended Family through the Power of Love, Lilly Gwilliam wrote: 'There is so much joy to share and so many ways to love in our family.' Obviously, these words uniquely relate to Lilly's blended family. However, I think this could also ring true for other families and/or relationships, whether blended or not. Lilly has captured the journey of today's blended family as she reveals her story to us. It's a story of trust, respect, and open communication, with joy and much LOVE mixed in. Her words have painted beautiful descriptions of the world she, her husband (Gary Gwilliam), and family have visited over the years. You'll be swept away to fascinating countries and lush island settings. It's like a mini travelogue! A New Generation made me think the essence of life is a voyage of discovery in more ways than one. . . . Lilly has created a must-read treasure while we sit in the front row observing 'the merging'-a.k.a. blending-of a lovely extended family! Lenore Kaler, artist/educator/marketing director/actress/realtor Lilly learns to blend the independence she developed as a single mother with her trust for Gary. . . . She tells the story of their maturing together and learning to deeply trust again. Although not everyone will have the kind of world travel adventures that they share, their example of including their children in their experiences is one that many could follow. As a result, Lilly is now able to enjoy this kind of loving relationship with her grandchildren that she experienced with her own grandfather. Lynn T. Scott, Ph.D.
