OverviewIn cooperation with the Centre culturel suisse, Paris An admiring yet critical appraisal of more than 40 Swiss architects, from the world-famous stars to the new discoveries of thee younger generation. Contemporary Swiss Architecture has an astonishingly international reputation with stars such as Mario Botta, Herzog & de Meuron and Peter Zumthor being celebrated throughout the world. This publication accompanies an exhibition which aims at reviewing and taking stock of the current architectural scene in Switzerland, analysing it from three contrasting perspectives. The first part examines 18 individual buildings which are considered representative of the high quality of current Swiss architecture. Subsequently, six chapters focus on specific features which are characteristic of this architecture. Concluding the volume are five essays each providing illuminating analyses and setting the present-day situation in a historical context. These are written by Joseph Abram, Jacques Lucan, Bruno Marchand, Stanislaus von Moos and Martin Steinmann. The exhibition Contemporary Swiss Architecture will take place in the Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris in May 2001. The exhibition will move to Lausanne, Marne-la-Vallee, Marseille, Mendrisio, Nancy, Rennes, and other European cities.
