Overview

The essays that follow represent research undertaken during the forty plus years of a successful teaching career at more than four colleges and universities, both in the United States and Europe.With two exceptions, these papers were delivered at various national and state conferences dedicated to the exposition and preservation of the value system delineated in these talks. As a consequence, readers may sense an echoing of themes and approaches when perusing the papers that treat of the legend of the sibyl or of the fabulous production of the very gifted Antonio Pucci and Antoine de La Sale, easily my two favorite exponents of the medieval and Renaissance ethic. Since a good part of this material has not been treated in systematic fashion previously, it may be perhaps possible here to ask indulgence of those who wish to learn more about the myriad aspects of the essential imagination of our civilized forebears that unfold below. Hopefully, once accomplished, the experience, may stimulate a further appreciation of these delightful literary masterpieces from times past.
