He served in enlisted ranks from E-1 to E-6 for 7 years. While enlisted, he was a crew chief on the mighty F-4G Phantom, F-16 Falcon and the F-117A Nighthawk. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees, became a nuclear maintenance officer and was selected to attend pilot training. He accumulated over 2500 hours in the air, about a fourth of them combat hours. He served in Desert Storm as a crew chief, Desert Fox as a nuclear maintenance officer, and Southern Watch, Enduring and Iraqi Freedom as a pilot.
