Overview

"The author addresses a collection of 41 most difficult and unanswered questions about life. They answer life's 41 unanswered questions by encouraging the reader to shun the idea that merely positive experiences must be appreciated and pursued in life; in times of hopelessness, pursuing purely positive experiences in life, leads us away from contentment and satisfaction. They propose that the valence or the duality (positivity and negativity) surrounding our day-to-day experiences was never meant to lead us to a purely Utopian life; we must do away with the idea that positive is more desirable and negative has to be totally disregarded. They propose a new way of making sense of life's experiences, especially the negative ones; our biases with regard to the negative and positive experiences in life should not encourage us to favor the positives over negatives. Throughout the book the author gives the reader ample convincing reasons to believe that negative experiences are much more meaningful and are capable of enhancing personality, when one feels hopeless in life. A new kind of awakening is possible, when we begin to embrace the unconventional, contingent and undesirable aspects of life. Once the reader entertains the idea that life's problems could be solved by looking at experiences as mere choices to fulfill special and meaningful purposes, irrespective of the duality in life, then an embarking on a journey of self-improvement and mindfulness shall prevail. Biggest problems could be overcome by recognizing the equal role of pain and pleasure in the process of life, which is called Consciousness. How many of our daily life activities depend on our biased way of perceiving the good and unpleasant parts of life, is highlighted in each answer. The bad, dull and the dis-interesting aspect of our experiences in life has been ignored for too long and the outcome is that we are more fearful than ever. The author proposes that we must critique the good and bad parts of life on neutral grounds, while trying to resolve every problem in life - ""Don't look at what went wrong, look at what wrong has done to shine light on the right things in your life"". A kind of Utopia the author here suggests is one that enables us to embrace the productive side of not just the good but also the bad experiences in life. The ultimate question to ask is this - What can I learn from my experiences? Never mind the good or the bad outcome of those experiences. The answers for an easy life are given in such a manner that it seems that the author is answering a seeker who embodies each of the given set of questions. Some main questions are as follows: Am I mind or am I body? Does my mind control my body or does my body control it? Does my body separate me from other people and things? Why do I feel that a happy day passes sooner than a stressful one? Is every experience of mine caused by every other experience? Is it wrong to lie? Under which circumstances is it okay for me to lie? How different would I feel to do something wrong and not tell anyone as opposed to apologizing for my actions? Do I handle my thoughts or my thoughts handle me? Should I forgive or take revenge? What is love? Should I be respected or should I be loved? Why do I fear something I cannot control, like death? Is losing better than cheating? What is self-esteem and how important it should be to me? How is my personality formed by nature and nurture? How does my understanding of science and religion impact my personal life? Is the purpose of my life to be happy? Or there is a bigger purpose that transcends happiness? Why are there wars? What is the point of anger in my life? Is my sexual desire different from the feeling of Love? How to inculcate self-love within me? At which point habit becomes addiction?"
