大沽河發源於膠東半島中部的叢山之中，一路南下，匯集了洙河、小沽河、五沽河、落藥河、流浩河、七星河、雲溪河等多條支流，在下游衝積出一片沃野。這裡水土肥美，物產豐富，交通便利，城鎮繁華。大沽河滋養著兩岸的生民，奔騰一百八十公里，注入膠州灣。大沽河如今寂寂無名，得名卻在春秋時代，古稱沽（姑）水，沽尤。《左傳-晏子》云：""姑尤以西""為齊東界。《齊乘》又云：""姑，即大沽河，尤，即小沽河。 这部纪实文学以大沽河为背景，展开作者从爷爷那一代开始在河上讨生计的故事。本書是他的首部家族系列小說。 2016 年，作者收到 24 本日記，這是他生母精神還健康的時候寫下的。次年，作者從加拿大回國，送走了養父李鐵誠，走訪了還健在的知情人。根據這些日記和採訪，寫成一本書，打算將日記和書稿埋進大沽河畔，李家的祖墳裡------
