作者昶文，名李培武，1936年出生于山东省高密县（现高密市）。1959年毕业于清华大学机械工程系。从事锻压机械的教学、研究和设计工作，为山东工业大学（后为山东大学）教授，培养了众多锻压专业人才，获得丰硕的科技成果。曾为美国俄亥俄州立大学访问学者。曾去日本、德国、韩国讲学、合作研究与交流。曾任中国锻压学会设备委员会委员、中国锻压协会技术委员会委员、《锻造工业》编委会副主任、山东锻压学会理事长等职务。 2005年定居美国，喜爱文学，为北美华文作家协会纽英伦分会理事。
