He subsequently worked in television lighting and when he retired in 1989 his hundreds of negatives had been stored in a chest of drawers for some forty years. Then in 2004 he was offered his first exhibition in the Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate; this was followed by one in the Ferens Gallery in Hull and an exhibition is forthcoming in the National Portrait Gallery.
