The Sketchbook depicts events from the first year of the war following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, illustrating both the heroism and resilience of Ukrainians and the senseless destruction and trauma of Russia's brutal invasion. The sketches formed the basis of a highly acclaimed art show/exhibit at H�joleSA, Blue Star Arts Complex in San Antonio, Texas in 2023, with profits from the sale of all works being donated to support UNBROKEN Ukraine https: //unbroken.org.ua/

Sara Barcus is an artist raising two sons in their hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Since 2003, they have been an active part of the local arts community; working to expand collaboration and inclusivity, as an illustrator, gallerist, muralist, and arts educator. Sara's work is shaped by San Antonio's unique community and culture in both style and theme, focusing on issues of humanity, compassion, and justice. Sara co-founded HijoleSA, a gallery devoted to showcasing young and up-and-coming local artists. HEROES is Sara's 5th large-scale series and solo show.
