Author Information

Cheryl's sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Latas, required that her students memorize the 105 counties and county seats of Kansas. Cheryl still remembers most of them. For eleven years, Cheryl wrote a weekly column for the Emporia Gazette about Kansas called Flyover People. Her two books of Kansas essays received the Kansas Notable Book Award - Flyover People: Life on the Ground in a Rectangular State (Quincy Press, 2010) and Waiting on the Sky: More Flyover People Essays (Quincy Press, 2014). Her poetry collection, Walking on Water, was published by Meadowlark Books in 2017. Owner/Publisher of Meadowlark Press, enjoys reading and writing about the people and places of her home state of Kansas, both real and imagined. She started Meadowlark Books in 2014.
