Reviews

Library Journal Lecouffe has written several books in the “10 Step Drawing” series, each capable of standing alone. The variety in this newest book is absolutely a joy, with instructions for drawing not only flowers but also trees, fungi, houseplants, and fruit (including a pumpkin). The steps are simple to follow. The last two steps are the hardest, involving finer details and shading, but even just doing the first eight can make an artist more confident in their abilities than when they started. While all the plants differ from one another, the steps follow the same pattern, which will help those learning the basics gain a solid skill set. Also appealing, the steps are subdivided sufficiently that the guide can be used to draw flowers from life or copy the example images provided. The projects use widely available tools that can be found even at hypermarkets and discount stores. VERDICT The diversity of plants included makes this guide practical for artists of any age or skill level.

But I must admit... I definitely didn’t do the gorgeous Virginia Creeper full justice! I’ll be trying again and I’m sure in no time I’ll be able to produce a more beautiful design! -- Maria Pujol * @mpr2000 *
