She graduated from a Midwest college before embarking on a solo backpacking adventure across England, Scotland, and Europe. After returning home, she married and settled in Maryland. Following a government career, Hamp was elected to two terms in local office. In retirement, she led a non-profit focused on housing improvements and dedicated her time to the environment and aging in place.
