Hoffman practices primarily in the areas of insolvency, bankruptcy and reorganization law, representing debtors, creditors, trustees and creditors' committees. Mel is the chairperson of the Bankruptcy Practice Group. He writes and lectures extensively on bankruptcy and insolvency issues. He is a contributing author of Queenan, Hendel & Hillinger, Chapter 11 Theory and Practice and the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education publication Real Estate Title Practice in Massachusetts. After his admission to the bar in Massachusetts in 1975, Mel served as law clerk to the Honorable Harold Lavien of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts. Mel joined Looney & Grossman in 1993 and was elected partner in 2000. He is certified by the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification as a specialist in business bankruptcy law, and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute.
