He received his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities at California State University, Northridge, studying a year abroad at the Universidad Compultense in Madrid. He left Los Angeles for Barcelona in 1989. He has been an English teacher at a large private school since 1995. He was elected to hold one of two teacher member positions on the Governing Body of the European Youth Parliament in Berlin, serving for four years.
