Author Information

"History author Rose O'Keefe promoted the family life of a famous man in her book ""Frederick and Anna Douglass in Rochester, New York: Their Home Was Open to All,"" in 2013. This pioneering work was recognized by noted Douglass scholar Celeste-Marie Bernier, and Dr. Ka'mal McClarin Ph.D., executive director at Frederick Douglass National Park in Cedar Hill, Washington D.C.Rose learned to see American society differently after living in France for four years as a girl. She became intrigued with the Douglass family's daily life while living in Rochester's South Wedge. Rose aims to connect modern readers of all ages with daily life on the Underground Railroad. After returning from service with the Army Air Force during WWII, John Bender obtained a B F A in industrial design and then worked in the glass container field. He always had a pocket sketch pad to keep drawing and participated in a Biological workshop at Cornell University in the 60's. John joined the Guild of Natural Science Illustration and still actively draws every day. The illustration is of a chop, representing the business name Pigeon Prints, that he has."
