Sometimes Orange Is Almost Gold: Morgantown's Misfits of the Diamond

Overview

This book captures the colorful and hilarious exploits of a group of orange-clad outcasts on their futile quarter-century quest for softball glory. Part softball team. Part social club. Part mythology. But mostly failure. Nobody loss better than the Chico's Bail Bonds softball team-the forever doormats of adult softball in a college town in the hills of West Virginia. A work-in-progress since 1998, Chico softball had the keen foresight to document the highlights (and lowlights) of their games from the first pitch of the very first game ever. The postgame write-ups have continued until this day. No one could have predicted that this team would still exist 27 years later. And no one could have ever imagined that over 400 game recaps (>100,000 words) would be penned and nearly 5,000 photos would be collected. In recent years, there has been growing pressure by former and current team members, Chico supporters, BOPARC (Morgantown West Virginia's Board of Park and Recreation) league officials, opposing players, and curious outsiders to document the Chico softball experience in a book. With this book, we have tried our best to capture the spirit, togetherness, and silliness of Chico's Bail Bonds softball.
