Overview

"Paul Rowcliffe joined the British Army at the tender age of 15 in the early 1970s. Despite the harsh realities of life he faced in his first barracks, it seemed the Army life suited him as he went on to serve for 20 years in the Catering Corps. For him, the motto ""Join the Army and See the World"" certainly came true. His career as an Army chef took him to places as far flung as Australia and the Falkland Islands, as well as seeing him serve in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and West Berlin at the time the Berlin Wall fell. His final posting abroad saw him serve as part of the coalition forces in the first Gulf war in 1991. In One Egg or Two, he recalls it all, the highs and the lows, in a memoir that's both authentically human and sometimes amusing - mixing enjoyable anecdotes with a genuine first-hand account of what it was like to be an Army chef in service during some of the most important historical events of the 20th century."
