OverviewI have been a doctor for 40 years. While at the beginning of my career I observed that women often became pregnant unintentionally, today we are experiencing the opposite. Nowadays, it is increasingly challenging to ""have a child."" A 180-degree turn in less than half a century? How is that possible? Nowadays, it is becoming increasingly difficult to have a child. Infertility is a common problem for couples. About half of the difficulties in getting pregnant are on the part of women and half on the part of men. We are paying the price for environmental pollution. We eat, drink, and breathe in chemicals. Among other things, they are the cause of the decline in testosterone production and have a negative effect on male fertility. In women, they reduce libido and increase the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, and early menopause. Added to this is the constant stress that accompanies us. In many cases, simple things can help. It is worth talking and writing about them. The book presents the possible causes of infertility, as well as the diagnostic procedure and treatment. And although we will address the problems faced by modern couples, the focus is on men. This is because male fertility in particular is under threat today, as changes in sperm quality show. I have been talking and writing about this for years. We are paying the price for environmental pollution. We eat, drink, and breathe in chemicals. Bisphenol A (BPA) is found in plastic bottles, receipts, and cans; phthalates have been found in children's toys; estrogens from contraceptives and hormone therapy for menopausal women are found in drinking water. We are not even aware that organic carrots and zucchini are grown on soil saturated with pesticides. Plastic is everywhere: in the air, in the oceans, on the peaks of eight-thousanders, and even, as recent studies show, in people's lungs and brains! Phthalates, which are used in many industries as so-called plasticizers, disrupt the hormonal balance in our bodies. Among other things, they are responsible for the decline in testosterone production and have a negative effect on male fertility. In women, they reduce libido and increase the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, and early menopause. Exposure to the chemicals that flood our environment today begins in the womb and impairs reproductive capacity in adulthood. In short, the era of ""Homo polluted"" has dawned. In many cases, simple things can help: reducing waist circumference, eating a healthier diet, quitting smoking, exercising within reasonable limits, taking your smartphone out of your pocket, and removing your laptop from your lap. It's worth talking and writing about. Otherwise, the human species will become extinct, just like the dinosaurs. In my book, I will outline the possible causes of infertility and describe the diagnostic procedure and treatment. And although I deal with the problems of modern couples, I focus on men. This is because male fertility in particular is under threat today, as changes in semen quality show. Author: Dr. Heinrich William Welch, MD, PhD.
