Overview

In 1933, Ralph leaves England for a year in the colonies, a test of character forced upon him by his fiancee's father. We follow his journey through his letters to Lillian, written with her parting gift - a Mabie Todd, Blackbird No 8 ink pen. Despite receiving no reply Ralph continues to recount his adventures as he takes up his position with The Company. As their story unfolds and Ralph's disillusionment reaches a climax, visceral contemporary tales of lost love and broken friendships are woven between Ralph's missives in aseries of short stories following the pen's trail

Author Information

Alex Wyndham Baker was born in England but has been 'pinballing' around the planet for some twenty years, working variously as a barman in LA, TV reporter in Bangkok, magazine editor in Hong Kong, copywriter in Nairobi, mojito vendor in Barcelona, hotel inspector in India and English teacher in the Galapagos. He started writing Cursive after a climbing accident in Kenya incapacitated him for a year and currently lives in Somerset with his fiancee and a limp. The pen exists and is carried everywhere by the author.
