Overview

Astounding... extraordinary... Jumping between highlighting his indie cult status as an artist and the mindset behind the abstraction of some of comics most beloved characters, the collection ultimately acts as a stunning visual love letter to one of comics most revered artists. - Comics Beat Bill Sienkiewicz (pronounced sin-KEV-itch) is an Eisner-winning, Emmy-nominated artist best known for revolutionizing the way comic books are drawn and made. His work has graced the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; art galleries in Paris, Barcelona, and Tuscany; and advertising campaigns for Nike, MTV, Nissan, the 2006 Winter Olympics, and dozens of Hollywood movies. Sienkiewicz is a classically trained painter whose artworks incorporate abstract and expressionist influences and combine oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, collage, and mimeograph. Bill Sienkiewicz: Revolution, Vol. I (Limited Edition)-the first time the artist's work and career have been taken out of the context of comic books and evaluated as fine art-is a numbered edition of 1,000 copies, each signed by the artist. Contained in a fabric-covered clamshell box is a collection of 40 individual deluxe reproductions of previously unpublished paintings, drawings, sketches, and mixed media works from four decades of Sienkiewicz's notebooks and personal collection as well as other private collections. A booklet signed by the artist includes a text explaining his influences and techniques and offer his view on the future of comic book art.

Bill sees clearly, paints beautifully. He absorbs styles and ways of making art with the facility he had as a young man, but now I always feel he's in control of what he does. . . . My hope is that a book like this, filled with Bill's art all in one place, will show people who think they know what Bill can do exactly how much more he can do than any of them had ever dreamed. * Neil Gaiman, author of The Sandman * A treasure trove of Sienkiewicz's art from over the years (including segments from his work on Marvel's New Mutants, his Jimi Hendrix biography Voodoo Child, and more). Even if you've seen his work before, you haven't seen it like this. * Entertainment Weekly * Featuring the eclectic work from one of the most prolific artists working today, the new art book Bill Sienkiewicz: Revolution . . . eye-catching. * The Daily Dead * Humble, light-hearted, and astonishingly talented . . . Bill Sienkiewicz has become a name synonymous with genre-bending artwork. . . . Needless to say, you can't throw a stone without hitting an incredible title that Sienkiewicz has tackled within the comics industry. * Comics Beat * For four decades, Bill Sienkiewicz has been a trend-setting artist and storyteller whose distinctive style smuggled avant-garde notions of design, expressionism and fine art sensibility into the pages of comics like New Mutants, Moon Knight, Elektra: Assassin, and graphic novels like Stray Toasters and Voodoo Child: The Illustrated Legend of Jimi Hendrix, permanently expanding the visual vocabulary of American comics. * Forbes * Bill Sienkiewicz is one of the most revolutionary creators in the comic book industry, a talented visionary whose evocative, award-winning work always carries a razor-sharp edge glinting brightly from just beyond our collective unconscious. * SYFY * I feel like I should be wearing gloves while handling it. . . . Holy cow, this is absolutely beautiful! . . . Literally everything in the box is worth framing. . . . [Bill Sienkiewicz: Revolution Limited Edition is] a really healthy representation of Sienkiewicz' long career. * CBR *

A master . . . [who] rejigged the comic book artist's mind forever. - Guillermo del Toro I asked [Bill] if he would send me some art. Anything he felt inspired to send me that was lying around his studio. He sent me a box of art. I took that box to work every day told no one. Intense art that inspired the hell out of me. - Vincent d'Onofrio, on his inspiration for acting in DareDevil Bill sees clearly, paints beautifully.
