Overview

Linda knows she's lucky. Yet every morning when she opens her eyes to a so-called new day, she feels like closing them again. Her friends recommend medication. But Linda wants to feel more, not less. And so she embarks on an adventure as unexpected as it is daring, and which reawakens a side of her that she - respectable wife, loving mother, ambitious journalist - thought had disappeared. Author Information

Paulo Coelho's life remains the primary source of inspiration for his books. He has flirted with death, escaped madness, dallied with drugs, withstood torture, experimented with magic and alchemy, studied philosophy and religion, read voraciously, lost and recovered his faith and experienced the pain and pleasure of love. In searching for his own place in the world, he has discovered answers for the challenges that everyone faces. He believes that, within ourselves, we have the necessary strength to find our own destiny. His novel The Alchemist has sold more than 65 million copies and has been cited as an inspiration by people as diverse as Malala Yousafzai and Pharrell Williams. Paulo Coelho's books have sold more than 175 million copies worldwide. He is the writer with the most followers on social media and is the most translated living author in the world. He has won 115 international prizes and awards, has been a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters since 2002 and in 2007 was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace. Susan Denaker's extensive theatre credits include numerous plays in the West End of London, national tours, many English Rep companies, including a season with Alan Ayckbourn's company in Scarborough. More recently in the U.S., Susan has appeared in Our Town and Sweet Bird of Youth both at the La Jolla Playhouse and Breaking Legs at the Westport Playhouse. Zoe Perry is a Canadian-American literary translator with over 12 years of experience in the translation field, working first as a project manager, in-house translator, and editor and, since 2010, as a full-time freelance translator. She grew up in the foothills of rural southeastern Kentucky and later called Sao Paulo, Brazil home for four years. She holds a BA in French and International Studies from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and an MA in Intercultural Communication from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, England. Over the past 15 years Zoe has also lived and worked in Canada, France, Portugal, Spain, and Russia, and currently resides in East London with her Brazilian husband. Margaret Jull Costa is a British translator of Portuguese and Spanish fiction and poetry, including the works of Nobel Prize winners Jose Saramago, Eca de Queiroz, Fernando Pessoa, Javier Marias, Bernardo Atxaga and Jose Regio. Jull Costa was joint-winner of the Portuguese Translation Prize in 1992 for The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa, and was runner-up in 1996 and 2002 for The Relic by Eca de Queiroz and The Migrant Painter of Birds by Lidia Jorge. With Spanish novelist Javier Marias she won the 1997 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for the Harvill edition of his novel A Heart So White. In recent years she has been noted for her work in translating the novels of Jose Saramago. Her translation of All the Names won the 2000 Oxford Weidenfeld Translation Prize, while her translation of Death at Intervals, about a country where death ceases to exist, was published in 2008. In 2013 she was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2014 Birthday Honours for services to literature.
