Overview

Greg Papp has found a way to take two powerful American metaphors - football and pizza - and effectively grab the attention of a sports-saturated generation that often lacks the life skills and spiritual depth required to make sound choices. Winning Choices speaks to the uncertainty that many feel in today's world and offers solutions that are understandable, appealing and effective in reaching across cultural, generational and educational boundaries. This book provides street-level ideas and tools to teach both principles and practices of making better choices. Ideas are fortified with input from over a dozen former NFL and college football players and coaches. Each chapter begins with a brief narrative from football, Scripture or contemporary life that is chosen to illustrate a specific point. More than 50 verses from Scripture can be found throughout the book to solidify the underlying Christian worldview. Today's culture of confusion magnifies the challenges faced by individuals seeking to make successful life choices. Students, career-seekers, prisoners and others know they need to get their lives together, but often lack the skills to make it happen. Winning Choices is targeted to reach the coaches, mentors and counselors who can work with these inexperienced individuals and provide the tools they need to find a sense of direction. Greg's lessons can help build valuable communication and trust between the coach and the player and ultimately between both of them and God.

At FCA, we understand the value of a strong coach-to-athlete relationship in producing winning results. Get in the Game leverages this relationship to create a sound, practical decision-making tool for the young generation. The football metaphor opens the door to the kid on the street who may otherwise shun the advice of more-experienced adults. The Biblical principles serve as a foundation and a filter to guide both coaches and quarterbacks in making morally tough choices. Undoubtedly, those who employ the ideas of Get in the Game will develop a winning edge in the game of life. --Rick Isaiah - VP Field Ministry, Fellowship of Christian Athletes - Great Lakes Region The upcoming generation of young Americans face huge challenges as they make life-changing decisions. Our culture is so confusing to young people, it would be helpful to provide a coach who can share both Biblical standards and personal experiences to help them make sound choices. Get in the Game does just that, using the game of football and real life examples to help make a difference in the lives of our youth. --Bart Starr - NFL Hall of Fame - Super Bowl I & II MVP As an educator in a major university, I have witnessed thousands of young people struggle with making pivotal career and life decisions. Get in the Game provides a powerful game plan to help these young people develop the talent needed to make effective, ethical, and successful decisions. Developing these decision-making talents can have a profound impact on their future. It is a practical tool kit for individuals and groups who need guidance in creating a worldview that makes sense, and adopting the methods that can make that happen. As a former college football player and co-author of the Two-Minute Drill, I can attest to the power of the football metaphor being used in Get in the Game. As a Christian, I have experienced and witnessed the impact of adopting Biblical principles into my life and the lives of countless others. The combination of both of these elements in Get in the Game will offer the reader an opportunity to get their game plan together, move down the field, score and WIN in the biggest game of all... The Super Bowl of Life! Get in the Game will be a must-read for those who want to step off the sidelines and make a difference with their lives. --Clinton O. Longenecker, Ph. D. Distinguished University Professor Director- UT Center for Leadership Excellence Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year & Jefferson Award Winner Whether you are on the football field or playing in the game of life, to win, you must get the entire team involved in the game. In a team effort, each and every role is critical in its additive value to a successful outcome. As an NFL player, I truly appreciated the various skills that teammates and coaches brought to the game. In my current role, I see that same need for total, selfless and even sacrificial individual investment in order to create a network of trust. That trust network then becomes the foundation for team achievement. In a complex world, no one wins on their own. In Get in the Game, author Greg Papp lays out ideas and tools for working together to make and implement winning decisions. If you are helping others learn to take their life to a new level, you will find this book ripe with real-life examples. --John Choma, President The Leadership Huddle Super Bowl XVI Champion
