Overview

The purpose of this book is to get to you to think about the way that you typically act. You are likely to have lots of ways of acting that are habitual, consistently repetitive, and determined by the actions of others. It is easy to get stuck in such unproductive modes of being; often one does not even realise that one is stuck! The author started thinking about this because of his observations of hordes of people walking along a series of narrow paths. These people consistently take a longer route than is necessary to get to their destination, when, if they were to walk off the path into the perfectly walkable areas just beyond they could have both a shorter and a more rewarding journey. As the author puts it, the areas beyond the path contain an immense variety of wonders...are an immense delicatessen for one's eyes and senses .
