OverviewJacquie Baines began her career as a nurse in 1949, at the Paddington Green Children's Hospital. In this first volume of her autobiography, she examines her early career, her love of being in theatre, the care she took of her patients, and pioneering surgical techniques as they were introduced. Baines also examines the differences between surgery in her day and in our present world. A move to Edgware General Hospital led Baines from children's nursing to taking care of adults as well as children, having to transfer her skills to a brand new generation of person. She speaks, amongst other things, about 'the art of nursing' - the way in which nursing in the United Kingdom was once a true vocation, and how its appearance - and, indeed, the appearance of many who work within the medical profession - has altered over time. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationI am a first time author having waited until my eighties to finally put pen to paper, or rather fingers to the computer, and this is the result. Having moved around quite a lot from my childhood home in Hertfordshire to Suffolk via London, Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia and South Africa, my husband, David, and I are finally settled in our 'forever' home in a small Suffolk village and enjoying a busy retirement. Writing is becoming something I am enjoying and I hope to carry on and maybe finish another book! Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
