Wandering: The Sublime, The Abyss, and The Between

Overview

Wandering speaks directly to the general human experience of both becoming overwhelmed in a positive way by monumental forces of nature and finding one's self overwhelmed by difficulty and trauma as well. Experience with the Sublime and the Abyss are mythic themes that reach across cultures and time periods which address the human condition. We humans share the capacity to experience something transcendent, something imaginal and greater than ourselves. Why? Because sometimes we need to go there, go to those places of inspiration, imaginal depth, elation, darkness, pain, grief, and fear. Again why? So that we can receive the gifts of healing that come through the soul.

Reviews

"Even though the writing uses the word Sublime, the book itself embodies it. And it is only one of the words to describe the photographs. Yet before that word came to me, I had also thought Superb. And before that, Gobsmacked. My reaction is that I am gobsmacked-an inelegant word for the most elegant images. I cannot recall being more gobsmacked with any art. I doubt there can be an equivalent portrayal so true to the journey shown. I like what the book does. The concept within it, the structure. The journey on which it takes me. Victoria Barnes, Ph.D. Poet, Writer, Mythologist, Depth Psychologist (The) book is absolutely beautiful, both the images and the text. I've never been one to have art books on my living room coffee table, but I would make an exception for this one. The photographs are gorgeous, I love that they are so dark... I love the interplay between the very serious very poetic text and the occasional somewhat humorous remarks, which bring me back down to earth now and then, as well as the occasional instructions, such as ""Beware the striving of the ego"" and ""Pay attention."" Judy Kaufman, President C.G. Jung Club of Orange County One of Hyatt's gifts to the reader is enlivening the notion of image as ""self-acting."" (7)Rather than illustrate examples of an image ""being"" independent, as if that is ever possible, his book embodies active, living images: cloud portraits. Immediately, the reader is required to access their own imaginal skills with each photograph. It's brilliant really...Through his photographic art of cloud portraits, he grasps an untouchable and ever changing map; his art is quite possibly the closest evidence that a way down and in these psychic energies exists. Upon re-emerging Kenton Hyatt dared to look back, and snapped a photo when he did. Maila Davenport, Ph.D. Artist, Writer, Mythologist, Depth Psychologist"
