Overview

Waking in the Light exposes the relationship between spiritual and poetic practice. These devotional poems speak to and about God, interposing to bring love to light where the reader may claim God as the object of affection but the experience of love is catalyzed by the poem. Depicting the deep affection, tenderness, and devotion she has for God, Ariana D. Den Bleyker explores Scripture through the liturgical calendar during Lent as a spiritual practice to bring the reader closer to God. These beautiful contemporary poems describe the wonders of nature and the value the poet places on the sights she observes in God's world, translating them into images we can all relate to. She turns her words to God, connecting people to him through image, symbolism, and metaphor, some of the longest-lasting unifying elements in both the Bible and poetry, revealing not only her inner attachment to God but the reader's own dependence on His word. Indeed, Waking in the Light suggests faith is tangible and beautiful, as Den Bleyker writes through Scripture interpretation, leaving readers with powerful images that linger.

"""Waking in the Light brings light to the heart and the soul. It will inspire those who take the time to sit with these word pictures and sit with the presence of God. In the same way that a masterful painting or symphony calls forth a deeper, richer truth, this collection of poems will touch your heart and mind and stir your imagination."" --James O'Connell, pastor, The First Reformed Church of Walden, New York ""Reflecting on Scripture, Ariana D. Den Bleyer endeavors to paint in words new images for meditation, growth, and transformation. Waking in the Light affords the opportunity to go on a Lenten journey within--no matter the date on the calendar. Open this book, open your imagination, open your heart."" --Howard L. Dalton, supervisor, The First Reformed Church of Walden, New York"
