Overview

Lying in the extreme corner of Igbo land bordering the Cross River is a unique Igbo community called Ututu. The author writes passionately about this community from thirty years of studying the everyday life of the people and eighteen years as the custodian of Ututu tradition and custom i.e., the Eze Ututu. Now a very committed born-again Christian, he makes no case whatsoever for idolatry, nonetheless he firmly believes that it is important to pass down to future generations the unfamiliar and unfathomable facts about the people of Ututu. It illustrates a community with rich, diverse, cultural and historical heritage unsurpassed by that of any other community of Igbo land. Several centuries long before the advent of the British, Ututu community already had an organised system of Traditional Government and Land holding system lain out in modern lines. The author employs his great skill as a master story teller to paint a vivid picture of an Igbo community that symbolises everything that the tribe represents.
