Overview

The idea of publishing the USI Strategic Year Book was mooted in 2015 to enable writers and readers to reflect, articulate, and debate on contemporary and futuristic national security issues in a global backdrop. The first issue of the USI Strategic Year Book was published in 2016. This is the seventh edition of the USI Strategic Year Book. The publication over the years has been widely appreciated by the policy-makers, strategic community and academia for its quality, content and relevance. The current issue of the Year Book contains series of articles by eminent authors on various aspects of India's national security in six thematic sections namely, India's National Security overview, Internal Security Issues, Pakistan-China, India's Strategic Neighbourhood, Global Issues, and National Security Capacity Building. The articles therein look at new challenges and responses to the existing paradigm of India's national security. The publication will be useful in generating informed debates towards cross fertilization of varied perspectives and serve as a reference book for scholars of strategic affairs and international relations as well as for the strategic thinkers and authors. Major General BK Sharma, AVSM, SM & Bar (Retd) is the Director USI of India. Among his prestigious assignments are command of a mountain division on the China border and Senior Faculty Member at the National Defence College. He has been a UN Military Observer in Central America and Defence Attaché in Central Asia. He has edited 08 books, contributed more than 70 seminal papers in the Indian / foreign journals and newspapers and presented over 30 research papers at international conferences. He lectures and writes extensively on security issues. Lieutenant General Ghanshyam Singh Katoch, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, USA. He has been the Director Centre of Anti-Terrorism Studies at the National Security Guard. Presently he is a Consultant Editor at the USI. Group Captain Sharad Tewari, VM (Retd) has been a Senior Research Fellow and is presently the Head Editorial Team at the USI of India. He is an expert on Net Assessment and Scenario Building. He has edited a number of books and has been a guest speaker at a number of universities.
