OverviewThis work was born out of concern for the increase in disappearances and violent acts against minors in the city of Quito. During the course of the investigation, it became intertwined with the existence of a large number of neonatal and foetal bodies accumulated in the freezers of the Forensic Medicine Service, which over the years have been forgotten. The aim of investigating these individuals without identity or real existence is given by the need to delve deeper into these phenomena that make up the spaces of social discomfort to which people prefer to turn their backs, such as death, loss and abandonment, which are disrupted throughout the case study analysed here, showing a different symbolism around the image of death that has already been established. In the same way, this research is structured between the pro-life and pro-abortion debates, as a gap to consider other aspects, both social and ritual, that have been left aside when discussing these issues.
