A graduate of Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan, a former head of the Science faculty at St. Joseph's Convent in Port of Spain, an editor of the Junior Express, one of the publications of the Trinidad Express Newspapers Ltd.; and a lecturer of Oral English and English Writing in the People's Republic of China, from 1998 to 2010. Ms. Baptiste is also the author of Kamla: Ascent of a Woman, an examination of the times that preceded the election of the country's first woman Prime Minister.
