Reviewed By Gisela Dixon for Readers' Favorite 4 Stars Timothy's Lessons In Good Values - Volume 2 by Christopher Gordon is a children's book on the importance and instillation of good values in children. In this book, Timothy, a young boy, is the protagonist and he tells his story and experiences in his own words. The book is organized into four sections: the values of obedience, responsibility, and kindness, and a fourth section which is a coloring section for kids. In this book, Timothy narrates his experiences with his friends and classmates when they lapse in their behavior or words. Timothy then dons his Warrior of Good Values suit and provides lessons by example on how to be obedient and follow rules, how to behave responsibly in situations, and also the importance of kindness to everyone and to fight against bullying. The book is accompanied by colorful illustrations throughout that complement the story. Timothy's Lessons In Good Values is a fairly interactive book in the sense that at the end of each section, there is a small question and answer session available for parents and teachers to discuss with the child. It encourages the child to think for themselves and learn about these values themselves, which I liked and appreciated. The story is simple and can be read aloud easily to a class. The writing style is succinct. I thought the accompanying pictures were fun and children will love to draw and color the last few pages provided for this purpose. Overall, this is a book with a message that should help parents and teachers to teach youngsters about good values at a young age. Timothy's Lesson in Good Values, by Christopher Gordon, is a picture book that reinforces good values and sparks conversation. In simply flipping through the book, readers get a sense of the organization. It is broken up into three different components, each focusing on a different value (obedience, responsibility, kindness). There is a quick story about the value then a page of questions for young readers to answer. How do readers learn about the value? Timothy transforms into the Warrior of Good Values and jumps in to save the day! I liked that each value is given it's own short story. It's not overwhelming and the message is quite clear. The three stories are all totally different with their settings and conflict. My personal favorite is the story of obedience. In my opinion, this is a value we don't really talk about much on a daily basis. The setting is at a school after winter break, and a blue monster convinces Timothy's friend, Emily, to skip school. Timothy explains to readers that Emily promised her parents she would go right to school and right home. I think this simplifies the value of obedience and makes it easier for young readers to grasp. I really liked the concept of skipping school because it's not over used, but it's also a lesson I could see kids applying to their real lives. I should also admit I never skipped school or even a class growing up. I was also a fan of a super hero being used in the story. Young readers, especially boys I've noticed, gravitate towards superheroes, so utilizing one in the story hooks and speaks to readers. It has a little bit of a Superman feel to it, but in a more realistic way. I could see this working in an elementary classroom for character education. The teacher reads the story and uses the questions to spark whole class discussions. The book also includes coloring and drawing pages, which can easily be used in the classroom. Author Information

"Christopher Gordon is an award winning graphic designer and author. Raised on the tiny island of Trinidad & Tobago, I always had a passion for designing & creating something from a blank canvas. I was always intrigued by movies both live action & animation together with the behind the scenes process that took place for the making of it. I would always find myself focusing on the production aspect in order to gain a better understanding of what really goes into an animated film. At the age of 16, I was given the opportunity to live abroad in Canada, where I was fortunate enough to interact with different cultures. Upon returning to Trinidad, I then studied animation & graphic design at a college level, which led me to land my first job as a 'Junior Graphic Artist' for one of the top advertising firms in the country. I loved every aspect of it! Designing various ads for different advertising campaigns, winning awards & just having fun while creating. Yet, I still felt like there was more that I needed to be doing with my skillset. It was only then, that I decided to take my skills to the next level by creating my own children's book series entitled ""Timothy's Lessons In Good Values"". My ultimate goal for this book series would be to inspire the younger generation (young warriors) about the importance of having good morals throughout their life and to essentially create a ripple effect for the future generations thereafter."
