Author Information

Dr. Gilberto Francisco Martha de Souza received his Doctor of Engineering degree from Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo, in 1994. Since that year, he has been teaching at the Department of Mechatronics and Mechanical Systems of University of São Paulo. His main research topic is reliability, availability and risk analysis of electro-mechanical systems and he is also the chair of the Reliability and Risk Analysis Laboratory of the Mechatronics department. During the last five years he has conducted research for  Brazilian power generation companies in order to develop a reliability-based methodology to improve power plant (hydro or thermal) maintenance planning and availability index. Part of the methodology was published in international journals, such as International Journal of Thermodynamics and Energy.
