Overview

The introduction of the 6-3-3-4 system of education gave birth to the teaching of the Sierra Leonean Languages in the educational system of Sierra Leone of which Kathemne is inclusive. This initiative presented a huge gap on the availability of text books. This book is one of the ventures taken by Sierra Leonean authors to addressing this problem. This is the first book of Kathemne that enhances the effective teaching and learning of the language. The book is presented in a dialogue form and therefore encourages the active participation of learners during lesson delivery. It also provides a solid foundation for learners who intend to do further studies at Senior Secondary School and Tertiary levels. It makes a thorough analysis of the phonological, morphological and the syntactic structures of the language. The book is a useful tool or resource material not only to pupils, teachers, but also to other people interested in the language. About the authors Daniel Fullah holds an M.A. in Descriptive and Applied Linguistics from Njala University, a B.Ed. in Kathemneand Linguistics, plus a Higher Teacher's Certificate Secondary from Northern Polytechnic. He has eighteen (18) years teaching experience and has been lecturer for five years at the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST). Lucinda Manneh Koroma is a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST). She is the first female to study Kathemne at the tertiary level. She has taught Kathemne and other disciplines at both secondary and polytechnic levels. She holds an M.Ed. from Njala University, a B.Ed. from Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) and several certificates in education. Ahmed Adarkwa Koroma holds an M.Sc. and Postgraduate diploma in Soil Sciences from the Agricultural University of Norway (AUN), a B.Sc. in Agricultural Education from University of Sierra Leone (USL). He is presently the Director of the Distance Education at the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST). Mr. Koroma helped the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in the development of test materials and the curriculum for Senior Secondary School in Kathemne.
