The long shadow that filled the doorway was all she needed to know that the bear was still behind her. Bruised and dazed, she ran for her life into the total darkness of the cave. In the outside world, her father and friends search every crevice in the mountains for even the tiniest clue that might lead them to the lost girl. This book is full of that mystery, wonder and what if of life a hundred years ago in the wild west! On the surface, it is an uncomplicated era with hard-working men and women, but it goes deeper. The story has a quick start with the tension that carries through the book. This is definitely a good read. The author puts you right there and is clearly of the west but weaves a tale for us all. It was highly creative to be so descriptive and make you sense the cave when it was pitch black. A great read, can't wait for his next book. We read this as a family for the first few chapters, but eventually I had to find out what happened on my own and finished the remaining chapters in one evening. A clean, enjoyable read for everyone! Thoroughly enjoyed this book. No gunfights, not a romance, just a suspenseful story... couldn't put it down.

"Born in Oregon, raised in the ranch country of Idaho, Don loved the wild country of Alaska and Idaho. He said: ""Fortunately, due mostly to a complete lack of self-discipline, I managed to wander and explore nearly every inch of the entire state of Idaho and eastern Oregon. Then I got married.
