He first helped incoming college students as a summer freshmen orientation leader. Michael served as a Supplemental Instructor for popular freshmen courses and co-taught a university introduction course for freshmen Honor students. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Iowa State University in 2005. He was involved in the Honors program and graduated in the top 2% of students in the College of Agriculture. He was then accepted into a professional program after three years of undergraduate study and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006 graduating in the top 10% of his class. Michael is a resident in small animal cardiology and a masters student in physiology. College expert Kipp Van Dyke has made helping college students his career choice. His extensive work in the residence halls includes three years as a Resident Assistant, two years as an Assistant Complex Director in an all freshman building, five years as a Residence Life Coordinator, and currently is the Assistant Director for Student Assistance and Outreach at Iowa State University. He has worked with the orientation program while a college student serving as an orientation leader and also advising this group as a student. While in graduate school, Kipp received the Vic Swenson Student Friendly Award. The following year he was named the ""Advisor of the Year"" in his first year as a young professional at Kansas State University. He has also been nominated for both a regional and national ""Outstanding New Professional"" award through two different professional organizations. Kipp was also named a 2010 'STATEment Maker' by the Iowa State University Alumni Association. This is an annual honor that recognizes the early personal and professional accomplishments and contributions to society of ISU's young alumni. Kipp earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family services from Iowa State University in 2002. He was involved in two honor societies at his college and also served as a Substance Abuse Peer Educator for the campus.
