Overview

This dazzling story collection is full of surprises. 'Hookup Hell' is a comic romance in the age of Tinder. 'Eleven' is a haunting tale of obsession. And 'Marla Okadigbo' is a savage satire of race relations in America today. Covering an extraordinary range of topics and styles, The Tightarse Tuesday Book Club is bold, funny, and hugely entertaining. Duncan Smith is, for me, one of Australia's best and most original writers. Smith never pulls back from ideas and issues, and will explore them regardless of what people may think. This, his second book of short stories, is a good addition to his recent novels. There is a range of material here from absurdist fantasy to social commentary. Highly recommended! D. R. Byers.

Author Information

Duncan Smith is an Australian author and musician. He is most notable for writing three novels that come with rock music soundtracks, recorded with his band, Lighthouse XIII. These include 'The Vortex Winder' and 'The Maelstrom Ascendant, ' a two book saga about Jimmy Brandt's journey through the corrupt and hedonistic world of showbiz. The third novel, 'Cultown, ' is about Thomas Swan, leader of a bizarre religious cult which takes over a small American town. Smith has also written a non-fiction book, 'The Vast and the Spurious, ' which analyses the recent gender war between men and women. It is a witty but compassionate look at the state of play today, a time when there is more anger between men and women than ever before.
