Though I enjoyed writing short stories back in my school days, when I left after my A-Levels I became too preoccupied with wanting to travel the world and have my own adventures to sit down and write one. From Scuba Diving in the Red Sea to tracking wild game in the African Bushveld, I was lucky enough to do things that many people only dream of. Now however, with the responsibilities of a mortgage and my family to look after, my travelling days have long come to an end. A few years back I hit a real low point over this and I found myself needing to fill a void in my life. That's when I turned to writing. In my current job I work as a Marketing Manager, when I started writing, however, I was working the night shift at a Petrol Station. That is where the spark for the story first came. I'd been watching my sister playing a computer game whose story involved this place called Shambhala that I had never heard of before. It piqued my interest and I began doing some research into it, predominantly to have something to occupy myself with on the long, cold winter nights working alone. The more I discovered about this Tibetan Shangri-La, the more compelled I became to delve deeper into the legends and mythology. I originally started thinking about writing a script for a documentary I'd have liked to film following the trail of my findings. In starting the writing for this, the story I discovered seemed to evolve and lent itself far better to an enthralling work of fiction. In many ways, being able to write an adventure story, that draws on many of my own experiences, has become more exciting than travelling ever could be; my adventures now are limited only by my imagination.
