Overview

This is the story of Willy Freeman, better known as Spokes. He is a fifteen year old with an amazing talent for imitating voices. When a practical joke backfires it launches him on a cross-country journey. On the run from mobsters, he leaves the Brooklyn housing projects he calls home and takes refuge in the Bohemian world of Greenwich Village nightclubs. But trouble follows and sends him packing, on the run from murder and guilt. Fate lands him in Southern California at the dawning of new age spiritualism. Like the main character, Spokes, Robert Eisenhart grew up in a New York City housing project. He has worked as an English teacher, a doctor of chiropractic, and a police officer. He currently lives in Long Beach, California.
