OverviewStructural change, deregulation and privatization are issues which attract an enormous amount of interest today. Yet too often these strategies are studied, or prescribed, without paying sufficient attention to their specific socio-political and economic context. This book deals with the question of how the transition from the autocratic Franco regime towards a liberal democracy, and the integration of Spain in the EC, have influenced the country's oil policy. By explaining the post-war development of the Spanish oil industry as a function of external and internal economic pressures and institutional factors, the book shows that the processes of structural change must be placed in both the socio-political and economic context if they are to be understood.
