A great set of characters, well developed, that made me nostalgic for my treasure hunting days in Spain. - Fred Dominguez As a former Airman stationed in Spain who treasured on weekends, it was thrilling to go back to the golden years of metal detecting during the 1980s. Although I never found a gold coin or treasure chest, Mark's writing style draws you into the addicting excitement of finding old coins and lost treasure. - Albert Fairweather Mark and I were in Spain in the 1980s and had a wonderful time metal detecting throughout the country. Now, so many years later, reading Mark's book has filled me with memories of our time there. Throughout the book, I remember detecting places as he described in his novel. One place had an ancient Roman presence and on one particular day, I remember Mark found several Roman coins. I found a large chunk of metal buried about 18 to 20 inches deep and we speculated that was probably where a Blacksmith had set up shop, and molten metal had collected. On several other detecting trips with Mark and his son Daniel, we all found coins. The thrill of finding ancient coins is an awesome experience that I will never forget. I knew that this was a novel but as I was reading it, I wanted every word of it to be true. I read this book in record time. If you are interested in metal detecting in Spain, or just want to read a good book, I recommend this one! - Dennis Pitts A good read, invoking memories of the heyday of Spanish treasure hunting. Roll call of famous and infamous treasure hunters, nicknames given, nicknames earned, Los Gredlers, Fred the Head, Weird Harold, and many more. Tapas and canas in the Plaza on Sunday morning, show and tell and deals in dark pubs and bars on side streets where Pesetas were exchanged in the tens of thousands for Visigoth relics, Roman, Celtic- Iberian and medieval coins. Carefully guarded locations, the famous Cabron, a tenant farmer armed with a shotgun intent on stopping anyone from detecting his field, the site of a large find of gold Roman coins. Those were the days and those were the times when life was lived to the fullest, friends were genuine and wine was food for the soul. My fondest memories are all rushing back. - Karl Backus Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
